There is a lot that goes into quoting the cost of an order, and of individual garment prices. Here we give you a peak into the formula’s and methods used.

1. We normally quote FOB prices for our orders. FOB quotes are made up of the following considerations: Fabric price + accessories price + (any special process) + wage price + loss + packaging + transportation.

If a customer would prefer the CIF price quoted then we take the following into account: FOB + Insurance + Freight + Customs + Banking .= CIF, as well as taxes and fees payable by the client;

In order to be able to quote the FOB price we need to know the fabric price.

2. Knitted fabric is priced by weight, while woven fabrics are priced per metre.

3. Knitwear pricing formula

- Tops and Blouses

Material required= single cutting area * square meters grams weight

Fabric cost = material required * fabric unit price

Body material :(chest size +6CM) X (body length +6CM) X 2X g weight X (1+ total loss)

Sleeve material: (hanging shoulder + cuff + 4CM) X (sleeve length + 4CM) X 2 X gram weight X (1 + total loss)

Collar material :(collar width X2+2) X collar height X 1 X gram weight X (1+ total loss)

For every piece of clothing to be made = bulk + sleeve + collar

Fabric pricing formula

Fabric price = yarn price + weaving price + dye price + other (including printing, opening and sub-setting, post-process)

If you have no experience in discharging materials, you need to calculate the approximate materials of a piece of clothing. The simplest method of using squared conversion is the most commonly used. This is for ordinary tops, as follows:

For those who are inexperienced in the layout of a piece of clothing, you need to calculate the approximate materials of a piece of clothing. The simplest method is using squared conversion. This is also the most common. This is for an ordinary jacket, as follows

Front = [(1/2 bust +1/2 hem) /2+ front seam left and right]* (front length + long bottom seam)/fabric width

Back = [(1/2 bust +1/2 hem) /2+ right/left seam of back piece]* (back length + top/bottom seam)/fabric width

Sleeve = [(sleeve fat + cuff) /2+ left/right stitching head of each sleeve]* (sleeve length + top/bottom stitching head)/fabric door width

Collar = (collar length * collar width) / width

Lapels = width * length/width

Material for single garment = (two pieces of front garment + back body + two sleeves + two layers of collar + two lapels) * 1.03 + loss

There are other things to take into account such linings etc but these are dependent on individual garment styles.

As these formula’s show, a lot goes into quoting for an order. Unless it is a repeat style it is generally not very straight forward. Women’s clothing factories have to spend the time quoting correctly or else they may find that they are losing profits.
